The Cosmelan peel is quickly becoming a go-to treatment for those looking to improve their pigmentation concerns. Unlike other peels, the Cosmelan peel uses non-bleaching ingredients and can be used on all skin types. Not just limited to the face, this peel can also be used on other areas of the body for overall improved pigmentation. Results can typically be seen after just four sessions.
This peel is especially effective for treating melasma, hyperpigmentation, trauma-induced pigmentation, and even pigmentation scars. With regular maintenance and home care, the Cosmelan peel can significantly improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and discolouration. At Este Medical, we understand that treating skin pigmentation and melasma can be difficult. We believe the best way to achieve optimal results is by prepping the skin before applying the Cosmelan Peel.
This peel is specifically designed to target and reduce pigmentation, but it’s also important to ensure that your skin is in its best condition for maximum effectiveness.
1Prep & Treatment
The Cosmelan Peel is a powerful treatment that works in two stages; however, your skin must be cleansed and prepped before this. First, the peel is applied to your skin and left for several hours until completely dry. There is no discomfort, but ensuring you have no social plans during this period is advised. After this, the peel will be removed with water, and you can expect your skin to be a little irritated and red due to the active ingredients which have penetrated your skin during this time.
2The Healing Process
One day after the treatment, your skin will be red and plump. This is a sign that the Cosmelan Peel has stimulated the process of skin shedding and wound healing. During this time, the body sends blood to the area, flooding it with collagen, and red and white blood cells, which helps reduce pigmentation and improves overall skin tone.Seven days after the treatment, recovery is complete, and results can already be seen. Pigmentation will have faded, and your skin’s overall texture will be improved due to increased collagen production and skin hydration. You must use Cosmelan 2 serum to prevent the formulation of new hyperpigmentation.
3Monthly Aftercare
Two months after the treatment, you can expect long-term changes in your skin's pigmentation, texture, tone and luminosity. It’s important to maintain a strict skincare routine to achieve optimal results, including using an SPF50 sunscreen and Cosmelan 2 serum daily. The Cosmelan treatment is an effective solution for treating pigmentation, but it’s important to understand that results vary depending on how severe the pigmentation was before treatment. In some cases, a maintenance program of 6-monthly treatments may be required. During the months after your treatment, your dedicated Este Medical Group consultant or therapist will be available to contact if you have any concerns and will be regularly checking in with your progress.
If you’d like to learn more about our professional Cosmelan Peel, please get in touch with Este Medical Group, and we’ll be happy to provide further information and advice. We understand that no two cases are the same, so we will work with you to develop a tailored treatment plan for your needs.

Cosmelan Peel
A cosmelan peel will reduce liver spots or sunspots, and in many cases eliminate dark, discoloured areas of skin. A series of depigmentation peels is one of the best courses of action for long-lasting results.
Cosmelan has a solid reputation of being one of the most successful ways to effectively treat skin pigmentation; the peel’s active ingredients help skin cells to slow down the overproduction of melanin. If you want to achieve a brighter, more even skin tone, then this pigmentation treatment is highy recommended.
Using the technology of thermal energy, a laser resurfacing treatment can help to diminish areas of discolouration due to hyperpigmentation. Laser treatment for depigmentation can target age spots as well as small to big patches of hyperpigmented skin.
Through laser treatment, the skin’s surface is stimulated to renew, which improves skin tone and texture. Laser skin resurfacing can also help to reduce pore size, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, and improve the appearance of acne scars. If you suffer from resistant patches of pigmentation that have been unchanged by other treatment options, then you should strongly consider laser skin resurfacing.
Ever wondered why uneven skin tone and dark patches happen? Hyperpigmentation can be caused by a range of factors including sun exposure, melasma, and some medications. It can be a difficult skin concern to address at home – over-the-counter treatments often fall short, and harsh bleaching agents do more damage than good.

You can take several steps at home to prevent or reduce the worsening of pigmentation concerns.
Always use sunscreen daily with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect against UV damage and uneven skin tone
Avoid excessive exfoliation as this can cause irritation and lead to further pigmentation
Gently remove any makeup before bed to prevent clogging of pores and potential breakouts
Incorporate products with ingredients like Vitamin C, niacinamide, and liquorice extract into your skincare routine, as they can help brighten and improve the appearance of pigmentation
Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet for overall skin health

When you come in for your consultation we will be able to advise you as to the number of treatments we predict you may need for your skin pigmentation to fade or disappear. However, everyone is different – while one person may need a course of three treatment sessions, someone else may need six. Treatment sessions are usually spaced at around two to six weeks apart.
What results can I expect?
We have seen fantastic results for skin pigmentation treatment. Results depend on your own specific area of skin pigmentation, and can take a matter of months to be fully appreciated. The best results will be seen after a course of a few treatments, but you will notice a gradual fading of the pigmentation as your treatments progress. This may result in the area becoming completely unnoticeable, or significantly lighter and closer to your normal skin tone.
How long will treatments take?
Treatment time depends on the size of the lesion being treated. In general, if we are treating just one patch then treatment time usually takes around 30 minutes, a few areas takes about 45 minutes, and a full face session lasts around an hour. We will be able to advise you as to how long we expect your own treatment to take when you come in for your consultation.
Are there any side effects?
After your sessions for your skin pigmentation, you may experience a certain amount of redness and/or swelling to the treated area. This should fade over the course of the next 48 hours. You may also notice that the area of skin pigmentation actually appears darker five to seven days post treatment. It should then flake away. There is no down time involved with this treatment and you can get back to your normal everyday routines straightaway
Is it painful?
Treatment for skin pigmentation is a quick and safe procedure, and requires no anaesthetic or skin-numbing agents. If you do experience any discomfort it will be mild. There is no need to be anxious about this treatment, but if you are, please talk through your worries with our skilled staff at your consultation and we will be able to ease any fears.
