Rosacea is a common skin concern that causes the skin to redden with a flushed or blushed appearance. You may also experience noticeable blood vessels and/or small pus-filled bumps. If rosacea is particularly bad, you may also have swelling around your eyes, dry skin, and/or sore eyelids. Rosacea is a harmless condition but many people find it upsetting and it can affect your self-confidence and mental health. Rosacea can flare up for a period of time and then disappear. Rosacea is most common in women and those with lighter skin, however men can experience rosacea and the symptoms are often worse. Rosacea largely affects the face.
The reasons as to why you might be experiencing rosacea aren’t always known. You may be experiencing rosacea as a result of an overactive immune system, your genetic makeup, stress, or because of environmental factors. There are also some factors that can make your rosacea worse. These include:
If you are worried about rosacea, speak to your GP in the first instance. They may be able to prescribe you an antibiotic to help with the condition. The most common antibiotic in the treatment of rosacea is Metronidazole. Alternatively, if you’d rather treat rosacea without the use of antibiotics, you can look to options that we offer at Este. These include:

Are there any natural supplements to help with rosacea?
Yes, there are quite a few you can try. Aloe vera gel applied topically can soothe irritation caused by rosacea, vitamin C can help support skin health, vitamin A helps your overall skin health and immune function, and vitamin B3 (niacinamide) will help target redness.
Is rosacea permanent?
It is thought that rosacea is a permanent condition, however if you manage it correctly, you will be able to enjoy symptom-free skin. Treatment could be with the use of medication, specific skin creams prescribed by your GP, or with the use of laser.
Is rosacea contagious?
No. Fortunately, rosacea isn’t contagious. Neither is it caused by a lack of hygiene. It is simply a skin condition that affects some people, and not others.
