Leukoderma – also known as vitiligo – is a skin condition that causes skin to become depigmented due to complete loss of melanin in the epidermis. It is not contagious and isn’t uncommon. It is thought that approximately 0.5% - 1% of the worldwide population has/or will develop leukoderma.
Leukoderma is a condition that usually lasts a lifetime. It is not known for sure what causes leukoderma, and what might cause it in one person may not do the same in another. Leukoderma may be caused by a virus or an autoimmune disorder. It could also occur due to - • Thermal burns • Eczema • Psoriasis • Accidental cuts • Ulcers • Other traumatic incidents to the skin
There is no known permanent cure for leukoderma, however some forms of therapy have shown a certain amount of success in some patients. These include UVA or UVB light therapy. At Este, we are proud to be able to offer clients suffering from leukoderma, treatment with our cutting-edge Exciplex Light Therapy. It uses monochromatic UVB light technology at 308nm wavelength to target the epidermis without any pain.
When we use the Visia Digital Skin Analysis to assess your skin, we are using a tool that allows us to see deep below the surface layer of your skin and detect a multiple of potential concerns. How can I help prevent leukoderma?
