Spider veins are also known as thread veins and telangiectasia varicose veins. They are harmless and appear as small, interwoven clusters of tiny blue, purple-ish, or red veins.
They can appear on your legs as well as your face. They are smooth, aren’t raised, and don’t bulge below your skin’s surface.
Spider veins are most common in pregnant women and people over the age of 30.
The exact reasons as to why you might develop spider veins are not entirely known. However, it is thought they can be caused by obesity, trauma to the body, fluctuating hormone levels, and genetics. When blood pools in these tiny veins, they come to the surface of the skin and this results in the appearance of spider veins. You may find them unsightly to look at, but they aren’t anything to worry about and are often just a natural sign of ageing.
At Este, we’ve treated many clients for this common skin complaint and have achieved great results. We use Microsclerotherapy for the treatment of spider veins. This is a safe and effective method which involves the injection of a salt solution into the veins. This solution then seals the spider veins shut so that no blood can flow through them. Once this happens the body will then reabsorb these small veins and they will disappear.
When we use the Visia Digital Skin Analysis to assess your skin, we are using a tool that allows us to see deep below the surface layer of your skin and detect a multiple of potential concerns. This advanced technology allows us to pick up on issues such as spots, wrinkles, texture, pores, UV spots, scars, red areas, porphyrins and more.

Microsclerotherapy involves injections, so if you are particularly sensitive to injections then you may feel a slight element of discomfort when the needle is first inserted. Most clients find the treatment entirely tolerable and, of course, we do everything we can to ensure any discomfort is kept to a minimum.
Will my spider thread veins come back?
Even though it’s possible to treat existing spider veins with microsclerotherapy, it’s not possible to predict whether you will discover more spider veins in the future. To help ensure you keep spider veins to a minimum you should aim to lead a healthy lifestyle, exercise, maintain a healthy weight, and wear sun cream to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays.
How many treatments will I need?
Spider veins usually respond very well to microsclerotherapy and you should see a dramatic improvement after the first session. However, to ensure your spider veins are completely destroyed, we advise a course of two treatments to tackle them all.
How long before I see results?
Veins tend to respond and fade within a few weeks after your treatment however, for desired results, more than one treatment is required. Book in your consultation for your bespoke treatment plan.
