How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?
How many laser treatment sessions you will require to remove a permanent tattoo will depend on the age of the tattoo, how big it is, and how dense the ink is in the design. To get an idea of a laser tattoo removal treatment timeline, we invite you to book an Este Medical consultation.
In our Este tattoo removal treatment sessions we use ClearLift Q-switched laser; this high-powered laser uses different wavelengths to ‘zap’ tattoo ink particles and break them down. This treatment is effective with dark ink and coloured tattoos.
During treatment a handheld laser device is moved over the tattoo surface: the laser’s energy is directed down into the skin layers to the tattoo ink underneath, which shatters the ink in miniscule fragments. Your body’s natural immunity will identify these micro-particles as waste within the lymphatic system and discard them naturally.
Does Laser Tattoo Removal Hurt?
Before your laser tattoo removal session a topical anaesthetic cream is applied over the treatment area to numb the skin. The treatment should not hurt you or be exceedingly painful. The treatment may feel similar to the experience of having a tattoo. When it comes to laser treatments, many people describe the feeling like being lightly zapped, and it is often compared to the sensation of being gently snapped on the skin with a rubber band. At Este Medical we do everything possible to ensure your treatment is comfortable and relaxed.

Before, During & After Laser Tattoo Removal
Before your laser tattoo removal session we recommend you have a tattoo removal consultation to determine the most effective treatment timeline. Before your tattoo removal avoid exposing the treatment area to sunlight or tanning bed light. Make sure to be rested and drink plenty of water for maximum body hydration.
During your laser tattoo removal treatment an anaesthetic cream will be applied to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible during the laser treatment. If you have questions about pain management during treatment make sure to ask your Este consultant in advance of your appointment what other pain relief measures can be taken.
After a laser tattoo removal treatment be sure to follow your Este Medical aftercare directions for the most optimal results. While the skin is healing and repairing naturally post-treatment there may be some redness and slight swelling. If you notice anything abnormal about the treatment area you should report it immediately to your treatment provider. Avoid sun exposure and tanning bed light to the skin area after a laser treatment.
Laser Treatment For Permanent Tattoo Removal
The ClearLift tattoo removal treatment uses a non-ablative laser which is safe for the skin; the short-pulse laser energy penetrates the skin to shatter tattoo ink pigment, but does not damage the skin’s surface. There is minimal risk of scarring and skin discolouration with this type of tattoo removal treatment.
If you have unwanted tattoo ink that you are ready to remove, then send us a message to arrange a laser tattoo removal treatment at an Este Medical clinic near you. Let us help you get rid of the tattoo you don’t want today!
