What You Need To Know From Expert Surgeons About Having Professional Hair Transplant
Here’s what our top hair transplant surgeons want you to know about the hair transplantation procedure and experience. We have gathered together some of the most frequently asked questions about hair transplants, so you can make a better informed decision about having a hair transplant surgery.
What Is A Hair Transplant?
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that involves moving healthy hair follicles from one part of the head (e.g., back or sides) to the part of the head that has lost hair (e.g., the temples, crown, or front hairline). This is essentially how a hair transplant works. Este Medical offers a few types of hair transplants: FUE and DHI hair transplants, as well as unshaven, long hair, and robotic hair transplants.
Another way to describe a hair transplant is hair grafting. For instance, viable hair follicles are harvested from a scalp area with an abundance of hair, and are ‘grafted’ into the treatment area of the scalp.
The aim of a hair transplant is to restore hair growth to areas of the scalp with hair loss (e.g., thinning hair loss, balding hair loss). A hair transplant at a reputable hair loss clinic can effectively and successfully treat various types of hair loss for both males and females. If your goal is to hold onto your hair as long as possible, or regrow your hair while time allows, then a transplant is something you should strongly consider.
See How A Hair Transplant Works!
One of our Este hair transplant clients has shared their live hair transplant experience so you can see exactly how our Este surgeons collect hair follicles from a donor area and then move the hairs to the treatment area of the scalp to be implanted into the skin for new hair growth.
Watch the hair transplant video to see close-up how hair follicles are carefully moved one by one during a FUE hair transplant surgery. A professional surgery like this can regrow a receding hairline, fill in a bald spot on the top of the head, and restore a full head of hair.
Can Women Have Hair Transplants?
Yes, women of all ages can have a hair transplant. Hair transplants are for all genders, as both males and females can experience a variety of different types of hair loss.
The one thing with a female hair transplant that might vary from a male hair transplant is that often women don’t want to shave their heads for a hair transplant. Depending on the type of female hair loss, a full head shave may not be necessary.
How much hair is shaved during a hair transplant surgery will depend on the donor area size, the treatment area size, and the type of hair loss, for example: female pattern baldness, receding hairline, or thinning hair along middle part. The best way to find out what type of hair loss you are experiencing is to book an Este consultation.
How Long Does A Hair Transplant Last?
Does hair transplant last forever? Yes, as this type of surgery is permanent. Transplanted hair is your hair, it is regular hair, and with proper hair care and good health, your newly transplanted hair should last forever.
With age, even though your hair follicles will thin, they should produce hair for the rest of your life. Your transplanted hair follicles (hair grafts) will naturally follow a hair life cycle. The cycle has four stages: growth, transition, rest, and shedding; the life cycle lasts a few years for each hair.

How Long Does A Hair Transplant Take To Heal?
Focus on hair transplant surgery aftercare is extremely important with our Este Medical surgical team and hair care experts.
Healing begins instantly as the scalp adapts to the newly transplanted hair grafts. At Este we believe that the first and final hair wash after transplant surgery is important to the best long-term results.
It can take about two weeks to recover from the initial surgery. The scalp needs time to heal and the hair follicles (hair grafts) need time to settle into place. Overall, healing from a hair transplant can take from 5 to 12 months. In as little as five months most hair transplant clients experience visible new hair growth (i.e., on average 50% hair growth). And within a year most transplant recipients will experience up to 100% new hair growth. The best way to find out more about this hair loss procedure is to book an Este Medical hair transplant consultation.
As a result of our successful hair transplant outcomes, we have been awarded the honour of being Turkey’s #1 Hair Transplant Clinic! Este Medical Group has also been acknowledged for being the Most Trusted Multi-Practice Clinic 2022 at the LuxLife awards.
Does Hair Transplant Hurt?
Most of our clients report zero to no pain during an Este hair transplant. During a hair transplant, the scalp is numbed with a local anaesthesia. Post-surgery, when the topical anaesthesia wears off, some people may experience mild discomfort (e.g., a stinging sensation). This sensation may last about 24 to 48 hours after a hair transplantation procedure.
When discomfort is reported by hair transplant clients, it is usually after the hair transplant, as the scalp adjusts to the hair follicle harvesting from the donor area and the implantation of hair follicles to the treatment area.
After having a hair transplant surgery you may experience one or more of these standard transplant side effects:
- Swollen scalp
- Tight scalp feeling
- Achy head feeling
- Scabbing
- Itchy head
- Sore head
Before you book a hair transplant surgery with Este Medical we will review what to expect before and after hair transplant surgery, plus book your hair transplant aftercare in the UK, and address any pain management questions you have.
Do Hair Transplants Work?
Yes, hair transplant surgery has a high success rate and Este hair transplant client feedback is something we are very proud of!
Discover why Este hair transplants are more successful than those at other hair transplant clinics. Our hair graft and transplantation success rate is high because at Este we take the time to prepare the scalp and hair follicles with PRP (platelet-rich plasma mesotherapy) hair injections, as well as laser hair growth treatments. These treatments are also an essential part of our recommended Este hair transplant aftercare.
